The kids explain that Frankie is here to adopt their dad to fix this mess. Richard initially runs to him in joy, then shakes him in anger for coming back without milk and then breaks down in tears. He later arrives at the Watterson home and meets the kids, who reunite him with Richard.

In his head, he believes that he has found a chance to get a free home. As he reads the newspaper to find a job, he sees the ad placed by the kids asking him to come home. In an old apartment, Frankie is eating cereal and complains as the repo-men are taking away his possessions due to his overdue rent. The kids then decide to contact the missing family patriarch to legally adopt Richard so that the mess is straightened out. Jojo is furious over the mention of Frankie, and quarrels with the adults who then get into a brawl. Darwin, in a moment of clarity, concludes that Granny Jojo is the most powerful member of the family, but Anais points out that she is technically their half sister in-law and that her ex-husband Frankie is the holder of that title.
Later, the family is inside while Anais describes the situation to all of them. Louie then denies Richard from seeing her. Louie goes to Nicole and tricks her into signing adoption papers, making her his daughter. Gumball tries to cheer him up, but accidentally gives Louie an idea to get payback on Richard. Louie is now forced to bunk in Gumball's bed. Louie complies, as he was raised to listen to his parents. The family is shocked at what he has done, but Richard tells Louie to go to bed. Richard rips off his shirt, gloating that Louie is his son now and cancels the wedding. They try to warn him, but he signs before they can do anything. Gumball smells something fishy, and Anais points out the adoption papers that Louie is unwittingly signing. He secretly places adoption papers on top before reminding Louie to add his name onto the guest list. Richard, however, was thinking of something else and decides to go along with Gumball's idea.Īt the table, the family are preparing the wedding invites when Richard strolls in asking about the guest list for the wedding. Richard then thinks about what Darwin said, and Gumball, fearing what their dad might do, intervenes and tells him not to adopt Louie for the power to forbid the marriage. Richard declares that he will not let Louie take away his mother, but Darwin tries to reason with Richard to adopt a positive attitude for Louie. The kids go upstairs to see Richard, who is still stunned, and figure out that Louie told him the news.
He dusts himself off and goes back inside with Jojo, who asks him how it went. Richard's grinding teeth ignite the gas leak in the bathroom, triggering an explosion, sending Louie flying outside. Louie is impressed since he was expecting him to explode. Richard, stunned by the news, grinds his teeth to hold back his outrage, saying he is alright with it. Louie suggests he be more mindful of his diet Richard replies that he never had anyone to share that kind of wisdom with him, and that he wished to call Louie "Dad." Despite the awkwardness, Louie delivers the big news: he and Jojo are getting married.
